Since the 1940s, migration has profoundly transformed Victoria. By examining migration themes, we can better understand the significance of post-1940s migration to Victoria’s heritage.

This study was undertaken in partnership with Heritage Victoria. It involved post-war migrants and their communities. Researchers worked with a local council with strong ties to those communities.

The goal was to help local governments identify migrant heritage places and address gaps in local heritage studies.

The final report includes:

  • a thematic history of post-1940s migration to Victoria

  • guidance on how to work with migrant communities to discover the heritage places they value

  • recommendations for further investigations.

The study shows the need to engage all communities in shaping and celebrating Victoria’s rich, diverse heritage.
